Window Hinge Repair

Sagging, seized, or rusted hinges diagnosed and made right.

Hinges on a casement or awning window carry the sash out into open air every time it opens, and in this climate they do it through rain, snow, and months of freeze-thaw. When they wear, the sash drops, drags, and stops sealing. We diagnose whether your hinges can be adjusted and freed up or need replacing outright, and we put the sash back where it belongs either way.

There is a real diagnosis step here, which is why the free inspection matters. A dragging sash can be worn hinge track, a bent hinge arm, or simply hinges crusted with paint and corrosion. Adjustment and lubrication saves some; others need new hardware, and pretending otherwise just wears out the new crank operator that has to fight the drag.

When replacement is the answer, our hinge replacement service covers the sourcing and fitting: measured to the originals, correct stack height, correct hand. The result is a sash that swings without scraping and pulls in square against the weatherstrip.

Hinge wear is especially common on lake-exposed homes around Callander and Astorville, where wind-driven moisture gets at the hardware. If the window has other issues too, a casement window repair visit covers the whole unit.

FAQ

Hinge Repair: questions we hear most.

Straight answers from the person who does the work. If yours is not here, call and we will talk it through.

Can hinges be repaired without replacing them?
Sometimes. If the metal is sound, adjustment, cleaning, and lubrication can restore proper movement. If the track or arm is worn or bent, replacement is the lasting fix, and we will show you which situation you have.
Why does my window scrape the frame when it opens?
The hinges have sagged and the sash has dropped out of square, so it drags instead of swinging clear. Realignment or new hinges puts the geometry back.
Do worn hinges cause drafts?
Yes. If the sash does not sit square, the latch cannot pull it evenly against the weatherstripping, and cold air finds the gap. Fixing the hinges often fixes the draft.
How long does hinge work take?
Adjustments are quick, often minutes per window. Full replacements typically take under an hour per window once we have matching hardware in hand.
